A Birthday Puzzle

Do you know Heather? She's my BQF (best quilty friend)! Her birthday is next week, and I wanted to surprise her with a fun gift!

I had a puzzle made from a quilt I sewed for her!

I originally saw this idea from an Instagram friend (@simplelovemade made one for @rockislander), and I've been stuck on the idea ever since!

I started by making the quilt top. I used this pattern by Libs Elliott. It's such a fun concept for a quilt pattern! You decide what blocks to use and where to put them by rolling a die! You all know I love math, so this was right up my alley!

I took a picture of the completed top to use for the puzzle. This gave me time to quilt and finish it while waiting for the puzzle to arrive in the mail!

Heather's favorite color is purple, and from our round robin quilts, I knew teal was high on that list too. I used all fabrics from my stash, and a fat quarter of gray for the back. I used purple thread for the quilting and stitched a quarter inch on either side of the main block seams to create a grid pattern.

Do you know how difficult it is to keep a sewing secret from your BQF?! I had been working on the quilt for a couple days when Heather asked, "What have you been sewing this week? I haven't seen any pictures!" Well, Heather, now you know!

The finished quilt measures 16" x 18" and the puzzle is 11" x 14".

This was such a fun project! I think it might be worth repeating!
